Level 2 Units and Unit Options
The NVQ consists of core units, optional units and additional units.
To achieve the full qualification learners must achieve six units in total, four mandatory and two optional.
In order to increase the breadth of their knowledge and capabilities, learners can also undertake any units from the additional units section, although these are not required to achieve the qualification.
Mandatory Units:
- Communicate with and complete records for individuals
- Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
- Develop your knowledge and practice
- Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals
Optional Units (choose 2 of the following 27):
- Carry out and provide feedback on a specific plan of care activities
- Support individuals to access and use information
- Support individuals in their daily living
- Support individuals to make journeys
- Support individuals to meet their domestic and personal needs
- Support individuals to access and participate in recreational activities
- Support individuals to take part in development activities
- Support individuals during therapy sessions
- Provide food and drink for individuals
- Help individuals to eat and drink
- Help individuals to keep mobile
- Help address the physical comfort needs of individuals
- Provide pressure area care
- Support individuals with their personal care needs
- Support individuals to manage continence
- Maintain the feet of individuals who have been assessed as requiring help with general foot care
- Assist in the administration of medication
- Support individuals prior to, during and after clinical procedures
- Contribute to moving and handling individuals
- Observe, monitor and record the conditions of individuals
- Support individuals to undertake and monitor their own health care
- Support individuals who are distressed
- Contribute to working in collaboration with carers in the caring role
- Contribute to effective group care
- Gain access to, and ensure individual’s home are secure
- Manage environments and resources during clinical activities
- Protect yourself from the risk of violence at work
Additional Units (any of the following units may be studied in addition to the core and optional units, however, they are not required to achieve the qualification):
- Relate to, and interact with individuals
- Ensure your own actions support the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of Individuals
- Enable individuals to negotiate specific environments
- Receive, and store medicines and products
- Obtain and test capillary blood samples
- Obtain and test specimens from individuals
- Contribute to the care of a deceased person
- Contribute to the identification of the risk of danger to individuals and others
- Contribute to the effectiveness of teams
- Receive and pass on messages and information
