Overview:

This workshop is designed to provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of conflict management within the workplace; from the potential causes of conflict, how to effectively deal with conflict situations, through to effective mediation and resolution.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understanding conflict and its main stages
• Understand the five conflict management approaches and when it is most appropriate to adopt them
• Be able to confidently deal with aggressive or confrontational behaviour
• Understand the need for assertiveness to support dealing with conflict
• Be able to employ mediation to work to resolution
• Identification and analysis of own conflict management profile

Workshop content:

Understanding conflict:

• Potential sources of conflict
• Iceberg of conflict theory model
• Syndicate group work analysing a case study scenario

Conflict management styles:

• The five conflict management approach model
• Suitability of each model for individual situations
• Group syndicate session on matching styles to individual scenarios
• Analysing own conflict management style

Assertiveness

• Exploring the role of assertion within a conflict management context
• Identifying the importance and benefits of assertion to gain favourable outcomes

Mediation and resolution

Practical application:
Delegates will be required to complete a pre-workshop evaluation survey.
The workshop will be supported with detailed handouts and e-resources.

Anyone who would like to improve their effectiveness at dealing with potential conflict situations in the workplace.
