Overview:

This workshop is designed to provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of what Equality & Diversity means within the workplace. What areas are covered by the recent Equality Act 2010 legislation, what individual and company responsibilities are in relation to the Act, and what actions are needed to ensure best practice is supported by all individuals through appropriate behaviours, ongoing training and awareness.

Learning Outcomes:

• Comprehensive understanding of the Equality Act 2010
• What are the key changes to Equality law
• Understand the different types of discrimination
• Understand individual responsibilities in relation to these
• What is meant by Diversity and the benefits to the organisation

Workshop content:

Equality Act 2010 overview:

• Protected characteristics
• New definitions of discrimination
• Default Retirement Age
• Impact on recruitment, promotion and training processes.
• Recent case studies of discrimination claims

Key changes:

• Pre-employment health questionnaire
• Positive action
• Combined and perceived discrimination
• Discrimination by association
• Group syndicate work on scenarios requiring type of discrimination to be identified

Diversity:

• Definition – what is meant by diversity?
• Key benefits of a diverse workforce

Practical application:
Final quiz to test knowledge gained from session

The workshop will be supported with detailed handouts and e-resources

Anyone who wishes to gain or update their knowledge of Equality and Diversity in line with current legislation.
