Overview:

The Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is for Pre-service or In-service Teachers or Associate Teachers, and is aimed at candidates who:

• Would like or require an introduction to teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector or
• Are seeking career progression within their area of work or
• Will be/are seeking to progress towards ATLS/QTLS status and/or
• Teach on a one-to-one and/or group basis

The qualification is suitable for those who work or want to work as:

• Teachers in the Lifelong Learning sector, i.e. further, adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector, provided they are qualified/experienced in the subject they intend to teach at the appropriate level
• Technicians and support staff in further and adult education

Programme content:
Five mandatory sections (6 credit value)

1. Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
2. Understand teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
3. Demonstrate session planning skills
4. Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
5. Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Plus:

• 5 theory assignments.
• 6 practical task assignments

Support Materials provided:
Handbook, Access to Reading Material and Recommended Reading List. Handouts appropriate to individual workshops.

Progression:
PTLLS is a requirement to progress to CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector).

Duration:
37 hours of workshops, usually run over 8 to 10 weeks and delivered as 9 half day sessions. The programme requires a minimum of 60 guided learning hours, the balance will be obtained through self-study, mentor time and research.

Cost:
£400 per person

We can also design and deliver bespoke workshops and training programmes to support individual business training needs as required.
