Recruitment and Selection Workshop

Overview:

On completion of this workshop delegates will have a clear understanding of the skills and knowledge required to ensure an effective, legal and fair recruitment process is followed. From legal compliance in line with the Equality 2010 Act and Data Protection legislation, ensuring all paperwork and processes support fair and measurable assessment, through to person specification and CV screening to ensure you get the right candidate for the right role.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the recruitment and selection process, and how to ensure the process is free from any form of discrimination
  • Be able to effectively screen applications prior to interviews
  • Understand the need to ensure job descriptions and personal specifications reflect all key elements of the vacancy
  • Know how to conduct effective criteria-based interviews effectively
  • Recognise the need to ensure factual and accurate notes are recorded
  • Understand responsibilities in relation to Equality and Data Protection legislation

  • What needs to be included – managing expectations
  • Equal opportunities considerations

Screening and selecting for interview:

  • Identifying what the key criteria will be for short listing
  • Telephone screening stage as an option
  • Importance of recording reasons for rejection

The interview stage:

  • Preparation and room availability
  • Format – include presentation or task?
  • What questions can be asked?
  • Common mistakes to make
  • Conducting the interview effectively and professionally
  • Interview skills and techniques

Paperwork:

  • Application forms vs CV’s?
  • Criteria based forms
  • Weighting criteria
  • Data protection requirements

Practical application (full day workshop only):

  • Syndicate group application screening exercise
  • Role play interview scenarios

The workshop will be supported with detailed handouts and e-resources

Duration:
This course can be delivered as a half day session or a more in depth full day session

Cost:
£75 per person half day. £125 per person full day
